A quick overview of the Ford Fiesta MK6. Characteristics, reviews

24.12.2016

- an excellent choice for a city dweller. Initially, with us, given type the car was perceived as feminine, but, in last years, the trend has changed significantly and men are more and more often found behind the wheel of this nimble little car. The secret of this success lies in the fact that we are beginning to appreciate the maneuverability, ease of use of the hatchback and low fuel consumption. But how things are going with the reliability of a used fifth-generation Ford Fiesta and what to look for when buying such a car in the secondary market, let's talk about this now.

A bit of history:

The debut of the first generation Ford Fiesta took place in 1975 at a press conference in Detroit. At that time, it was a real breakthrough, since this model became the first well-selling front-wheel drive vehicle. In 1983, the second generation of the car was presented to the public. And in 1989, sales of the third generation of the Fiesta started, which technically practically did not differ from previous version, but had a completely different appearance. In the same year, a five-door version of the hatchback was presented. In 1995, the premiere took place at the Frankfurt Auto Show fourth generation, the novelty received not only a different appearance, but also a new suspension and more modern engine « Zetec-SE».

In 1999, a deep restyling was carried out, during which the manufacturer significantly modified the suspension. This decision made the Fiesta not only the most comfortable, but also the most well-controlled car in its class. At the same time, cars with the new 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 liter Zetec engines appeared on the market. The debut of the fifth generation took place in 2008 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Compared to the previous generation, the Fiesta 5 has become much larger and heavier, and thanks to the increased wheelbase, it has been possible to make the car more spacious. In 2003, the division Rs was created sports version"". In 2005, the car underwent a restyling, as a result of which the optics, radiator grill and bumper were changed. The sixth generation Ford Fiesta was unveiled to the public in 2008 at the annual Geneva Auto Show. This version the car is produced to this day.

Advantages and disadvantages of used Ford Fiesta

In terms of corrosion resistance and quality paintwork, then it is at a fairly good level, but only on cars before 2005... Later, the manufacturer began to use water-based paint, which led to a significant deterioration in the quality of the paintwork. So, on cars that were released in 2006 and later, the body quickly enough becomes covered with scratches and chips. If you choose a Fiesta after 2005, pay special attention to the trunk lid, especially in the area of the license plate light, where corrosion most often appears. The trunk lock is not famous for its reliability either. Quite often you have to change the headlight lamps, and for this you have to remove the headlights ( design feature ). Also, the protective plastic of the headlight quickly becomes cloudy.

Engines

Officially, Ford Fiesta was supplied to us only with gasoline power units - 1.3 (60 and 70 HP), 1.4 (80 HP) and 1.6 (100 HP). Most weak engine 1.3 is completely unsuitable for long journeys, its power is enough only for leisurely movement around the city. Operating experience has shown that this motor is simple, reliable and inexpensive to maintain, plus it has a rather modest appetite (up to 7 liters per 100 km). The timing belt is driven by metal chain, the resource of which is about 200,000 km. The main disadvantage of this motor is its increased noise during operation.

Engines 1.4 and 1.6 equipped with a belt drive Timing, and the valves do not have hydraulic lifters and are regulated by washers. Replacing the belt and adjusting the valves should be carried out at least once every 80,000 km. The main advantage of these motors is that they digest not only 95th, but also 92nd gasoline without any problems. Cars with a 1.6 engine are the most expensive on the market, since such power units were installed only on the most expensive configurations. Of the common problems, a small fuel pump resource can be distinguished ( 60-70 thousand km), also every 70-90 km a radiator replacement is required. If the car starts to start badly, it's time to change the candles and clean throttle... Another significant drawback is officially considered the non-maintainability of these engines. That is, after the engine has exhausted its resource or God forbid it breaks the belt and bends the valve, you will have to change the power unit.

Most often, problems with these engines arise due to the fact that the owners very rarely service them, and the official service interval of 20,000 km plays a cruel joke. Also, for a long and trouble-free operation of the engines, it is necessary to constantly monitor the oil level so that it stays not below the average mark on the dipstick. Only under this condition will the motors serve without serious breakdowns up to 300,000 km. In the secondary market, quite rarely, but, nevertheless, there are Fiesta with a diesel engine 1.4 (68 hp) and 1.6 (90 hp), as a rule, such cars are imported from Europe. These power units are in no way inferior to gasoline ones in terms of reliability, their significant drawback is that they fuel system quite demanding on the quality of diesel fuel, which, unfortunately, we have a large number of gas stations.

Transmission

Ford Fiesta was equipped with three types of gearboxes - five-speed mechanics, automatic transmission and robotic transmission " Durashift". There are no obvious problems with the transmission of this model, but nevertheless, it has proven itself to be the most reliable mechanical box gear. It has not a small resource, and its clutch, on average, it nurses 100-120 thousand km. Of the weak points of mechanics, one can single out: the current oil seal of the input shaft, and if the part itself is worth a penny, then you will have to pay about $ 70 for the work. Also, axle shaft oil seals are not famous for their durability. If, in order to engage the gear, you need to apply force, do not be alarmed, it is just time to clean and lubricate the guide mechanism.

The robot is very similar to mechanics, but in it electronics is responsible for gear shifting, this type of transmission, like Automatic transmission, not everyone will like it. The point is that in automatic mode shifting occurs with tangible jerks and dips during sharp acceleration, and also, during prolonged driving in traffic jams, this type of transmission overheats quite quickly. The robotic box is not famous for its long service life; with proper and careful operation, its service life rarely exceeds 120-150 thousand km. Therefore, if there is a choice between a robot and an automatic transmission, then it is better to give preference to the second option.

Features chassis Ford Fiesta with mileage

Ford Fiesta is equipped with a front independent suspension MacPherson type, a semi-dependent beam is installed at the back. Operating experience has shown that even on domestic roads the main suspension elements have proven to be quite durable. If we talk about performance characteristics and comfort, the Fiesta suspension deserves only praise in these components. The most weak point the suspension, as in most cars, are stabilizer struts and bushings, their resource does not exceed 50,000 thousand km. On average, once every 80,000 km, you will have to change ball joints... They live a little longer (up to 100,000 km) wheel bearings, tie rod ends, silent blocks and CV joints.

Shock absorbers, thrust bearings and steering rods are capable of holding 100-120 thousand km. Brake pads, on average, they take care of 50,000 km, disks over 100,000 km. If an unpleasant creak is heard from the rear suspension while driving, check the condition of the fastening and insulation of the parking brake cable in the area of the rear beam. This problem is treated with two turns of electrical tape. The peculiarity of the Fiesta suspension is that the breakdown of any of the parts is not always accompanied by characteristic sounds, therefore, try to call in for the chassis diagnostics 2-3 times a year.

Salon

Compared to the sixth generation Ford Fiesta, the interior of the fifth one looks slightly archaic and somehow impersonal. But, despite the fact that the interior looks rustic, fairly high-quality finishing materials are used here. So, for example, the upper part of the dashboard is made of soft plastic. As for the sound insulation, there is a suspicion that it is simply not there. On electrical equipment, questions most often arise about the reliability of power windows.

Outcome:

- one of the most successful cars last decade. It should be admitted that today it will be a worthy option for those who are looking for an inexpensive, compact and reliable car with the habits of a driver car.

Advantages:

  • Good handling.
  • Profitability.
  • Low cost of maintenance and repair.
  • Durable chassis.

Flaws:

  • Poor insulation.
  • Small ground clearance.
  • Harsh suspension.
  • Overheating of the automatic transmission.

Ford Fiesta - B-class supermini car was developed in 1972 and approved for production in 1973 under the name Bobcat. The first generation was released in 1976. This model has gone through 6 generations and is still in production today. In total, more than 16 million units were manufactured, making it one of the best-selling vehicles of the Ford company. Others similar cars competing firms are Chevrolet Cobalt, Lada granta, Renault Logan, Honda Fit (Jazz), Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Mitsubishi Colt, Nissan Almera, Peugeot 208, Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Yaris.

First generation

The first generation fiesta was produced with 1976 to 1983 years with engines 957 cm 3 (40 HP) and 1117 cm 3 (53 HP), located across the front compartment. The body was made in the form of a hatchback with 3 doors. Options in Europe - Base, Popular, L, GL (and since 1978 - Ghia and S). Options in the USA - Base, Decor, Sport and Ghia. All configurations in the USA came with more than powerful motor volume of 1596 cm 3. In 1981 replaced the Fiesta in the US market.

Minor restyling was in 1981. The bumper was enlarged to meet the rules road traffic and other minor improvements to maintain focus ahead of the second generation release.

Second generation

The second generation fiesta came out in the middle 1983 years and was produced before 1989 of the year. During this period, about 2 million units were produced. Automatic transmission appeared in 1985 on some trim levels. The engines remain the same as in the first generation with minor changes. For the first time there was a diesel with a volume of 1600 cm 3, adapted from the Escort, and also in 1986, a 1400 cm 3 injector appeared.

The appearance of the car has become more dynamic. The dashboard has become different on simpler and more expensive trim levels.

Third generation

The third generation was introduced in late 1988, codenamed BE-13. This generation has been produced since February 1989 to 1997 years. The car is based on a new platform and, most importantly, there is a 5-door hatchback model. Rear suspension became semi-independent, there was a four-channel ABS system, a traction force distribution system and emergency braking... The volume of the diesel engine was increased to 1800 cm 3.

Since 1995, the car has been sold at the same time as the fourth generation. To make the cars different, the finish of the car was revised and presented to the market as the Fiesta Classic. This version was produced until 1997.

Fourth generation

The new fourth generation Fiesta (codenamed BE91) were produced with 1995 to 1999 years. The chassis of the car remains the same as the previous generation, but most of the components have been improved, including a new suspension, making the car one of the best in its class. The interior also underwent significant changes, more expensive materials were used. Body options remained the same - 3 and 5-door hatchback.

The engines installed new displacement 1250 cm 3 (75 HP) and 1400 cm 3 (90 HP) called Zetec-SE. The diesel engine was also slightly updated - it was called Endura DE, and the volume remained the same - 1800 cm 3 (60 hp).

Fourth generation (restyling)

This generation of Fiesta was produced with 1999 to 2002 years. They were mainly external changes, aimed at A New Look for cars - New Edge. Added a new more powerful 16 valve engine Zetec with a volume of 1600 cm 3 (103 hp). Environmentally friendly E-Diesel in 2001 and the new Lynx 1.8 TDDi diesel. There are new options like side cushions safety and leather trim.

Fifth generation

WITH 2002 to 2008 For years, cars of the fifth generation were produced. This car was introduced on April 1, 2002 :) Most of the engines were carried over from the fourth generation and renamed Duratec. The line of gasoline engines began to include the following volumes - 1250, 1300, 1400, 1600 and 2000 cm 3. Diesel engines there were two types - 8-valve 1400 cm 3 and 16-valve Duratorq TDCi with a volume of 1600 cm 3.

The line of finishes and equipment is as follows - Finesse, LX, Zetec and Ghia. Also available in basic configuration ABS and passenger airbags. Body options are available as in previous generation- 3 and 5 door hatchback. The wheelbase was slightly increased, which made it possible to make the cabin more spacious. The appearance is very different from the fourth generation.

In 2006, a restyling was carried out. Mainly cosmetic changes- front and rear lights, bumpers, side moldings, door mirrors, and a vibrant color palette was also introduced. Inside changed dashboard, finishing with materials soft to the touch. New technologies were applied such as electrically folding mirrors, automatic wipers windscreen, on-board computer, Bluetooth with voice control, MP3 player and electronic control sustainability.

Sixth generation

The sixth generation of the Fiesta was presented at Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2007 as Ford Verve. Manufactured from 2008 years to the present. This model is based on the new Ford B3 platform for B-class vehicles. The body types are as follows - 3 and 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 3-door van.

The range of engines has been greatly expanded. Petrol engines- 1000 cm 3 Ecoboost I3; 1200 cm 3, 1400 cm 3, 1500 cm 3, 1600 cm 3 Sigma I4; 1600 cc 3 Ecoboost I4. Diesel - 1400 cm 3 and 1600 cm 3 DLD-416 I4. Transmissions are also presented in a wide range - 4-speed automatic, 5 and 6-speed mechanics, 6-speed PowerShift automatic.

The Fiesta is equipped with Ford's Convers + menu system, the same as on the C-MAX and Galaxy, and is complemented by steering wheel control buttons. Also a system of keyless entry and engine start from a button, a USB port for connecting music players.

, - one of the most compact sedans on Russian market... Such cars are appreciated for the combination of the body type "classically close" to our public and modest dimensions that facilitate maneuvering and parking in tight yards. Therefore, when choosing "classmates" for the Fiesta, we proceeded primarily from the size, namely, from the length in the range of 4.3–4.4 meters. Of course, all popular sedans in this niche are budgetary by definition, but each in its own way, since the price range is quite large. And this despite the fact that only foreign cars are involved in the review, although they are assembled in Russia.

Ford Fiesta: shorty

This is not only the shortest participant in the review (4.32 m), but also one of the shortest (2.489 m), because contrary to modern trends, they did not stretch the standard Fiesta platform for the sedan. On the one hand, this improves maneuverability, on the other, it theoretically increases the tendency to oversteer, up to drifts, which Fiesta demonstrates in practice. In addition, the poor visibility from the driver's seat, traditionally sacrificed to style for today's Fords, can hinder the realization of the advantages of a short base. However, active drivers will surely forgive the machine for many errors for the fact that it retained its gambling handling with very good ride smoothness, and the cramped interior in the rear and the lightest trunk volume in our review will hardly become obstacles. And the interior, the design of which is pretty outdated in the seven years that have passed since the debut of the sixth generation Fiesta, is saved by the soft plastic of the front panel - an unaffordable luxury for most competitors.

Prices, discounts, equipment

To sweeten the not-too-humane Russian price list, Ford offers bonuses for scrappage and trade-in programs. Moreover, according to the second, it is much more profitable to take a sedan: not only is it initially 10 thousand rubles cheaper than a hatchback in similar trim levels, but also the "trade-in" discount on it is twice as much - 80 thousand rubles against 40 thousand. But the conditions for recycling are equal for everyone - minus 50 thousand rubles, unless you buy the not the most affordable version of Ambiente, which is only in the sedan body and on which you are ready to throw as much as 83 thousand. Minus this amount, the minimum cost of the Fiesta is a very attractive 469 thousand rubles, but not everyone will be attracted by the equipment of such a car. Only an 85-horsepower engine in a block with a manual transmission, electric drive of mirrors and front windows, ABS, audio preparation - this list is actually exhausted. True, for 35 thousand rubles, you can supplement it with an optional "Optimal" package, which includes an air conditioner and a radio with a USB connector and steering wheel controls.

All this you will get in the standard, and without fail, if you prefer the same 1.6-liter engine, but boosted to 105 hp. The minimum package for this option Trend, taking into account the utilization discount, is estimated at 547 thousand rubles with the "mechanics" and 597 thousand - with robotic box, and for a surcharge, you can get light-alloy wheel disks, SYNC entry-level multimedia system, fog lights, rear power windows, heated front seats and a windshield. Some of these options are included in the kit standard equipment in the Trend Plus version, for which you need to pay 47 thousand rubles, and the top-end Titanium equipment includes all positions, plus light and rain sensors, climate control, a stabilization system, leather steering wheel and LED running lights... Such a Fiesta is available exclusively with a "robot", and you will have to pay at least 704 thousand rubles for it if you are satisfied with the 105-horsepower engine, and at least 728 thousand in the 120-horsepower top version.

Datsun on-DO: only Lada is cheaper

The most budgetary alternative to the three-volume Fiesta is a "rebranding" version of the VAZ sedan Lada Granta by name. Itself was not included in the review, since it is shorter than 4.3 meters, but one of the main differences of Datsun is the elongated trunk, because of which on-DO can argue with Fiesta regarding disharmony external appearance... But here it is at least clear what they fought for: the Datsun trunk has the largest volume in our review, although the on-DO itself is only 17 mm longer than the Fiesta (4.337 m) with an even slightly shorter base (2.476 m). As for the rest of the consumer qualities, as well as the driving qualities, Datsun can hardly be seriously compared with "real" foreign cars: of course, it surpasses Grant in many ways (except for the choice of power units - only a 1.6-liter eight-valve in a block with "mechanics "), But you can't jump higher than your head, and the price, again ... About her - a little lower, but here we will nevertheless note strengths Russian "Japanese brand": good visibility, excellent sound insulation, impenetrable suspension and more ground clearance than other crossovers.

Prices, discounts, equipment

In Datsun showrooms, customers are lured with valuable gifts ( winter tires very handy nowadays) and a 50 thousand discount on recycling / trade-in, and until the end of November there is also an additional fifteen thousand discount. But even without all this, on-DO is much more budgetary than Fiesta: if the minimum price of an "empty" car with all discounts is 469 thousand, then Datsun is in a good set of Trust (fog lights, ABS and a pair of airbags, in front there are power windows and heated seats, an audio system with USB and SD slots, simple climate control) initially costs 466 thousand, and today it can be taken for 401 thousand. And adding another 56 thousand rubles, we get "full stuffing", even if in this case it is not very fat: heated windshield, 7-inch touchscreen display, navigator, parking sensors, rain and light sensors, side airbags and even a stabilization system.

The most economical ones are waiting for an attraction of unheard-of generosity in the face of the Access equipment. Outwardly, it differs from other 14-inch wheels (of course, steel), the absence of foglights, black bumpers, door handles and mirrors, and inside - the absence of electric adjustments for these same mirrors, electric windows, central locking, air conditioning, radio and passenger "air race". In addition, the engine here is not 87-horsepower, as in other versions, but 82-horsepower, which, however, is difficult to feel in motion. The picture is only brightened up by the ABS, the folding rear seat and heated front seats, but everything is compensated by the "tasty" price. Without discounts, it is 406 thousand rubles, and taking into account all the bonuses - even a ridiculous 341 thousand, like half of the Fiesta of an average level of equipment.

Renault Logan: base matters

One step above Datsun is one more representative of the "Renault-Nissan" family - the second generation. This is the longest wheelbase sedan in the review: being only slightly longer than the Fiesta (4.346 m), it has almost 15 centimeters more distance between the front and rear wheels(2.634 m). Not all of this increase went to the space for rear passengers, but they are still noticeably more at ease than in Ford or Datsun, also thanks to a higher seating position, because Logan is in the lead in overall height. The driver, as in the first Logan (which, by the way, is also still available), is not spoiled by either ideal ergonomics or refined driving habits - the priorities are still practicality and economy. Until recently, buyers of the new Logan did not have an alternative to a manual transmission, but now they are offered two two-pedal versions at once - with a simple "robot" based on the same "mechanics" and with a good old "automatic" four-speed automatic, which has long been familiar from many others. models. Moreover, the first is aggregated only with an 82-horsepower eight-valve engine, and the second - exclusively with a 102-horsepower 16-valve engine.

Prices, discounts, equipment

To receive discounts on Logan or other special conditions, the Russian representative office of Renault invites each buyer to bargain with a specific dealer. On general terms, for a minimum of 419 thousand rubles, you can get a car in the Access configuration, as modest as that of Datsun, and even without power steering and ABS. They appear in the performance of Confort, along with front power windows and some other useful things, but the price immediately rises to 517,990 rubles, while for elementary air conditioning and foglights, they also require additional payments. Of course, an optional power unit will also cost a pretty penny: a 102-horsepower car will cost at least 539,900 rubles, two thousand less will have to be paid for a base motor in tandem with a "robot", and a powerful automated version already costs 584,990 rubles, which quite comparable to Fiesta.

However, unlike Ford, a combination of basic power unit(eight-valve plus "mechanics") and top-end configuration. It is called Luxe Privilege, is estimated at 607,990 rubles and includes alloy wheels, leather steering wheel, climate and cruise control, parking sensors, heated front seats, rear power windows and a decent audio system with a touchscreen display. True, you will have to pay not only for more powerful engine and automatic transmission, but also for stabilization and navigation systems, at 11,990 rubles for both.

Hyundai Solaris: give youth!

The Korean bestseller is the most direct competitor of the Fiesta in terms of price, technical and image. The dynamic design of both sedans clearly gravitates towards youth, although the slightly larger Solaris (base - 2.57 m, length - 4.375 m) does not have an equally low-powered base engine... 107-horsepower 1.4-liter engine in a block with "mechanics" accelerates the car to 100 km / h faster than the most affordable Fiesta, on-DO and Logan, although for someone it can be much more important than a second difference in acceleration big bet transport tax... The base engine can also be aggregated with a four-speed automatic transmission, while for the 123-horsepower 1.6-liter, an alternative to the manual six-speed is provided in the form of a more advanced six-speed automatic transmission. The dynamics are matched by the harsh suspension, but the handling is also difficult to call ideal, even if the "arrogance" and less than the Fiesta. As for ergonomics and functionality, here is an approximate parity with the Ford sedan with minor adjustments for design and equipment features.

Prices, discounts, equipment

The current discounts for are small against the background of the Fiesta - only 30 thousand rubles, but you do not need to take them to get them. old car neither trade-in, nor disposal. The initial price, taking into account this bonus, is 505,900 rubles, more than Ford, although the starting price Active equipment very similar: a pair of airbags, ABS, central locking, front power windows, steel wheels, audio preparation. For a climate package consisting of an air conditioner, heated front seats and mirrors (of course, with an electric drive), you need to pay 68,500 rubles, and if you want to add an automatic transmission to these amenities, be prepared to shell out another 35,000. This is provided that there will be a 1.4-liter engine under the hood, the car in the same configuration, but with a 1.6-liter unit, is estimated at 599,400 rubles in the "mechanical" version and 639,400 rubles in the "automatic" ...

Those who care not so much about the number of "horses" and gears, as a decent configuration, can take even the "weakest" Solaris in the Comfort or Elegance versions. The first, with a minimum price of 585,900 rubles, implies the presence of electric windows "in a circle" (and the driver's one with a closer), an audio system with a USB connector and steering wheel controls, as well as heating the lower part of the windshield. And Elegance is a minimum 640 400 rubles and a much more serious "filling": climate control, parking sensors, improved interior trim and a heated steering wheel, leather braid and adjustment for reach (in the base, it moves only up and down). In addition, a car with a 1.6-liter engine can be obtained in the "anniversary" version of the Special Edition 500000th (from 639,900 rubles), where some "elegant" positions are missing, but there is a light sensor, projection headlights, foglights, LED running lights and alloy wheels. However, "casting" and everything else can be obtained in addition to other configurations thanks to optional packages, which are offered to choose from as many as seven pieces.

Kia Rio: thanks to comrade Schreier

Solaris clone, released with him on the same Russian plant under the Kia brand, traditionally sold in slightly smaller quantities, but recently it has shown better dynamics. Recently refreshed after its older brother, Rio still contrasts its sportiness and youth with a more solid and respectable image, developed under the guidance of the famous Peter Schreier. In our time of crisis, an increasing number of customers “fall for” a car that looks more expensive than it actually is, especially after restyling, even if in technically(and, accordingly, in terms of driving habits) this is the same Solaris. However, there is still a difference in consumer properties: with virtually the same overall length (4.377 m), the Rio has a slightly larger trunk with a lower loading height. The rest - again, the nuances of marketing and design: for example, some like the Asian pretentiousness of the "Hyundai" interior, others - European restraint inner peace Kia.

Prices, discounts, equipment

For all the similarities between the two Korean models, Kia has its own pricing policy. The discount is given only under the trade-in program, and if you rent a car to a dealer Kia brands, it is 60 thousand rubles, and if "a stranger" (obviously, including Hyundai) - only 35 thousand. But we will evaluate from the standpoint of a convinced patriot who transplants into new sedan from the old Kia, and from this point of view, the starting price looks, if not as modest as that of the Fiesta, but even more beautiful - 499,900 rubles. For these half a million without a hundred, we get, of course, a 1.4-liter engine and "mechanics", steel discs and only front power windows, but the mirrors will have an electric drive and heating by default. For an air conditioner you will have to pay 30 thousand rubles, but it is more profitable to add another 10 thousand and get it complete with heated front seats and a steering wheel, which will be covered with leather. A car with the same set of equipment, but with an automatic transmission, will cost at least 639,900 rubles.

In general, the Kia configuration system is more Asian, that is, less flexible than that of Hyundai, despite the European design. For example, a 1.4-liter engine cannot be obtained with a rich package, which has climate control, rear power windows, a multifunction steering wheel with an offset adjustment and alloy wheels. All these benefits are available starting from the Prestige version, equipped with a 1.6-liter engine and priced at 669,900 rubles (including discount) with a manual transmission and at 709,900 rubles with an automatic transmission. And only in the latest modification for 769,900 rubles, the buyer has access to the top-end Premium grade with 16-inch wheels instead of "15" wheels, a special interior and exterior decor, an engine start button, parking sensors and a stabilization system. Here you will inevitably save on security ...

Volkswagen Polo: jokes aside

The only truly budget representative of the "popular" German brand is the most serious and "adult" sedan in our review. Wheelbase of the four-door Polo, although increased in comparison with the base hatchback, is still slightly shorter than that of the “Koreans” (2.552 m), but in terms of overall length (4.39 m) it barely fits into our framework. The strict and academic design practically did not change during the update, which the manufacturer announced just the other day, the main novelty was the 1.6-liter engine of the new generation EA211 Russian production... From the previous "111" it differs by an increase of 5 hp. power (90 and 110 hp versus 85 and 105 in different versions) and better economy, but some argue that buyers can pay for this with a decrease in reliability, more difficult and expensive service and repair. However, while these fears are groundless, and most importantly, what you can still be sure of is the reference ergonomics and exemplary driving manners. Moreover, from now on, the Polo will be equipped with a more powerful starter, a battery of increased capacity and disc rear brakes, which is why even in the most available trim levels the minimum dimension of wheels is 15 inches.

Prices, discounts, equipment

The update, as usual, led to an increase in prices, albeit a symbolic one: the "entrance ticket" now costs 524,900 rubles against 519,900. This is how much they ask for a sedan with a 90-horsepower engine in a block with a manual transmission made by Conceptline. These are steel wheels, ABS, two airbags, power windows in front and rear, a steering column with two degrees of freedom, central locking, audio preparation. Not bad in comparison with the same "Koreans", but for a surcharge, alas, you can only get a radio tape recorder, anti-theft system, engine protection and rubber mats (the latter is especially touching). If you need air conditioning, you will have to take the Trendline package for an additional 35 thousand, but here the choice of options is richer: it is possible to order light-alloy wheels, heated mirrors and a windshield. This level is the starting point for a 110-horsepower version of the engine with a "handle" and a minimum price of 602,900 rubles, and for a car with a six-speed "automatic" will have to pay no less than 648,900 rubles. But earlier, such a box was available at all starting with the Comfortline version for at least 673,900 rubles.

The sixth generation Ford Fiesta debuted in the fall of 2008. The Cologne-based model immediately won the hearts of fans of modern, elegant and easy-to-use compacts. It quickly became the second best-selling vehicle in Europe and the best-selling car in the B segment.

Success can hardly be considered a matter of chance. Ford Fiesta has a compact and proportional body, and despite the years gone by, it still looks fresh. The rising line of windows and the spoiler lip on the boot lid give the compact a ravenous look. Fiesta looks especially attractive in pastel colors. It is a pity that it is not easy to find such a color in the secondary market, there are dominated by "serious" colors. In 2012, the model underwent a facelift - Ford significantly increased the grille and refreshed the line of power units.

Body and interior.

There were several body types to choose from: a 3 or more practical 5-door hatchback. The first one causes difficulties not only when boarding and disembarking rear passengers, but also in tight parking lots due to wide doors. Even a sedan was available in some markets.

The attractive body hides the modern interior. Decent materials were used for its decoration. The upper part of the front panel has a soft-touch coating. The unusual layout of the center console is pleasing to the eye, the instruments are easy to read, and the meaty steering wheel fits perfectly into the hands.

Ford was unable to avoid several misfires. The amount of space in the second row is limited: tall passengers do not have enough free legroom. Luggage compartment has a reasonable volume of 290 liters, but when the backrest is folded down, there is a significant ledge. The high edge of the luggage opening makes it difficult to load shopping bags. The improved multimedia system is not the easiest to use, but after a while it still allows you to make friends with you. There are no handles on the ceiling, and even in the well-equipped versions, the rear windows can only be opened manually.

However, the list additional equipment covers all basic needs. Most of the samples are equipped with ABS, ESP, airbags, audio system and air conditioning. 16-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery and climate control are much less common. It is worth looking for a Fiesta equipped with parking sensors: the backward view is very limited.

Indisputable advantages Ford Fiesta comfortable, albeit small, seats and an ergonomic driving position. Add to this a precise gear selection mechanism and an informative steering wheel. As a result, we get a car that allows you to enjoy the movement.

Chassis.

Conceptually, the chassis of the Ford Fiesta is not much different from its predecessor and is a combination of MacPherson and a torsion beam. Correctly selected chassis settings provide a high level of comfort and good handling. Simple construction courageously endures traffic on Russian roads. First of all, you have to change the bushings and front stabilizer struts.

Uncomplicated brake system inexpensive to repair. On the rear axle Most versions work with drums, which is an outdated solution even for the "B" segment.

The CV joints of the drives wore out relatively quickly. Noise appeared when cornering (TSI 7/2010).

The steering uses electromechanical amplifier with an electric motor on the steering column. Unfortunately, the electric amplifier sometimes fails. And you have to change it assembled with the steering column. The node is very expensive. It includes a control unit that, among other things, powers the electric motor. To do this, it transforms D.C. on-board network into a variable.

The drive shaft joint may crack, affecting safety. Ford rebuilt and lubricated the assembly (TSI 19/10).

Engines.

Most of the time-tested engines are installed under the hood of the Ford Fiesta: gasoline with a displacement of 1.25 liters (60 and 82 hp), 1.4 liters (92 and 96 hp), 1.6 liters (105 , 120 and 134 hp) and diesel - 1.4 liters (70 hp) and 1.6 liters (75, 90 and 95 hp). Both turbodiesels were developed in collaboration with Peugeot specialists. Used compacts with the latest engines last generation- petrol 1.0 l (65, 80, 101 and 125 hp), 1.6 (182 hp) and diesel 1.5 l (75 hp) are not so popular.

Gasoline aspirated engines are not flexible. They begin to pull well only on high revs, which affects fuel consumption and noise level in the cabin. To enjoy the dynamics, you must choose at least the 1.6 Ti-VCT version. This engine is equipped with a variable valve timing system, which, unfortunately, sometimes fails.

Everything gasoline units are representatives of the Sigma series and were created in collaboration with the Japanese Yamaha back in the mid-90s. Of course, they will be further developed. However, mechanical valve clearance has been used here from the start. Only, instead of the calibration washers, pushers were installed, the selection of which is used to adjust. A clearance check is recommended after every 100,000 km.

The Sigma series motors are really very reliable. True, with high mileage, they begin to slowly take oil. The reason is wear piston rings combined with hardening of the valve seals. This phenomenon is gaining momentum with frequent and long trips on the high speeds... At the same time, oil consumption is about 2-3 liters per 10 thousand km.

After restyling in 2012, three-cylinder units from the Fox line appeared. They have a volume of 1.0 liters. The naturally aspirated version retained the commercial name Duratec Ti-VCT, while the turbocharged version was nicknamed EcoBoost. New motors are devoid of balancer shaft, and the timing belt is driven by a toothed belt with an extended service life of 240,000 km or 10 years. Durability was achieved by bathing the belt in an oil bath. It uses a very rare SAE oil 5W-20, which must meet the Ford WSS-M2C948-D standard.

The hot ST version received a 1.6-liter Ecoboost after modernization. This is nothing but turbocharged engine Sigma series.

Turbodiesels are much more flexible. Since mid-2010, all TDCi have been fitted with a particulate filter. The purchase of such a diesel engine is not recommended for motorists traveling only in the city - the DPF filter will quickly become unusable. And after a few years of such operation, it may be necessary to replace the turbocharger. It is harmed by frequent trips with an incompletely warmed engine. Both TDCi are fuel quality sensitive.

The 1.6 TDCi is supplied by the turbine lubrication system - a sludge forms in the oil supply line. Mechanics offer to inspect oil channel every MOT, or change the pipeline every 50,000 km. To minimize the likelihood of sedimentation, the oil should be changed at least every 10,000 km. If the turbine is out of order, then the oil supply line must be replaced along with it. Otherwise, the new turbocharger will soon become unusable again. It is cheaper and easier to eliminate leaks in the fuel injection system.

Transmission.

Besides the "mechanics" Ford offered two types of automatic transmissions. For an engine with a working volume of 1.4 liters, a 4-speed automatic was provided, which ensured a smooth ride, but limited dynamics and increased fuel consumption. The 1.6-liter petrol engine was offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission with double clutch Powershift. The box is working correctly, but it is better not to count on the "rate of fire" of the German DSG. 1.6 Ecoboost was combined with 6-speed mechanics.

The 5-speed manual transmission is designated iB-5. This is a modernized version of the B-5, which was created back in 1982. The prefix "i" appeared in 1996 and means - improved (improved). The revision was carried out jointly with specialists from the Getrag company. The box is quite reliable. Among the shortcomings, one can only note the leakage of the oil seal of the right-hand drive, installed at the factory.

The automatic machine with the index 4F27E was created in conjunction with Mazda. The box was assembled at the Sterling Heights plant in Michigan. To control the operation of the machine, six solenoids are provided, which sometimes fail. To extend the life of the box, an oil change should be made every 60,000 km. This requires a fluid that meets Ford specification WSS-M2C919-E. Alternatively, Mercon V can be used. ATF Dexron cannot be used.

Typical problems and malfunctions.

The Ford Fiesta does not plague its owners with endless malfunctions. Quite the opposite. The car has demonstrated exemplary durability. German Association for the Inspection of Technical Condition Vehicle DEKRA has no big claims to the compact and in all respects estimates the reliability of the Fiesta in class "B" above average. However, experts complain about crookedly installed reflectors, insufficient brakes and leaking shock absorbers.

On some Ford Fiesta, the filler flap may skew and damage the paint (TSI 98/2009). Since October 2009, the hatch has been modernized.

Little Ford also scored high marks in the ADAC report. Best of all, cars from 2009-2010 have proven themselves. Among the shortcomings, German experts call the battery, high-voltage wires, spark plugs and ignition coils, a fan, a radiator, a starter, fuel pump, ignition system and immobilizer. The list of potential defects is long enough, but the good news is that the malfunctions do not affect key components.

It is worth noting that in 2011, Ford carried out a serious revocable company to modernize the pipes of the ABS / ESP hydraulic circuit. They rubbed against each other, which could subsequently lead to brake fluid leakage.

Corrosion is considered the most serious problem in older Fords. Whether the trouble has touched the compact is still unknown - too little time has passed. However, individual owners testify that they find small foci of corrosion in the places of chips, under the linings and along the edges of the body elements.

There are also problems with the electrician - there are malfunctions multimedia system and central locking. Over time, the tailgate lock may knock. The upholstery of the door sometimes becomes a source of unpleasant sounds. In addition, bulbs burn out regularly.

The popularity of the Ford Fiesta is reflected in the availability of spare parts. It is not difficult to purchase branded substitutes. Original spare parts have reasonable prices.

When looking closely at used cars from Europe, you need to be wary of white cars with a turbodiesel under the hood. Typically, these machines worked for the benefit of various organizations. The declared mileage of 60-90 thousand km is most likely a hoax. More realistic figures are 140-180 thousand km. It is noteworthy, but even with this mileage, the car has no obvious signs of wear.

Side windows Ford Fiesta sometimes emit extraneous sounds.
