Front-wheel drive, but 4MOTION all-wheel drive is also available. It was such a car that we got for the test.

We had at our disposal the heaviest possible T6 Transporter - a hard-working van with an all-metal body without glass, the owner of a long wheelbase, a high roof and high rear hinged and side sliding doors. WITH similar car, but from the previous generation, we already introduced the readers at the beginning of the year ("Avtopark" №1 / 2015). It was all the more interesting to compare the newcomer and the predecessor.

SPLASH OF DESIGN

Externally, the T6 remained recognizable, especially in profile. Perhaps the only change that is noticeable from the side is the rear-view mirrors mounted lower than its predecessor. Also worth noting is the redesign of the front end. With a lowered front bumper made of unpainted grainy plastic, a matte black grille with a chrome strip, as well as more austere optics and a textured bonnet, the most utilitarian version of the German van looks more effective. The rear of the car also received new elements - we are talking about a horizontal stripe on the bumper, which emphasizes the width of the body. In general, the thoughtful and expressive lines give the Transporter, like the entire model line, a modern and at the same time recognizable look that will never go out of style.

Multimedia system with smartphone interface

The cargo area of ​​the van is accessed from both the rear and the passenger side - the standard sliding door opens a 1020 mm wide opening, allowing easy access to cargo in the back of the cargo area. Rear doors open sequentially: first left, then right. This is convenient for side-by-side parking and provides safe access to the load compartment from the side of the road.

TWO PASSENGERS, NINE CUBES

Floor area cargo compartment, separated from the cab by a blank partition, is 5 m2, and the volume of the cargo compartment in the version with a high roof is 9.3 m3, including a spacious niche above the cab. Doors to the edge of the roof do not create obstacles for packages up to 2 m high, and the distance between wheel arches- 1244 mm allows loading goods on Euro pallets using eight lifting eyes. The loading height of the van is low, only 566 mm, and the doors that extend to the edge of the roof do not obstruct packages up to 1940 mm high.

The driver's workplace has remained practically unchanged in terms of ergonomics, all elements of the "man-machine" system have been verified with German scrupulousness. But design innovations in the interior of the T6 are immediately striking. The stylistic design of the driver and passenger area borrowed from passenger cars concern, and now it has more shelves and compartments for small items. The front panel is made in two colors - dark top and light bottom. By the way, earlier we met such design delights only at Renault Master.

Rear view mirrors provide a wide view

In terms of expanding the functionality of the "command post", it is worth noting the updated information display v dashboard and a 2-din multimedia system that can communicate with smartphones and tablets, and even receive sound commands.

It's comfortable to drive. The driver's seat, which is adjustable in height, is equipped with lumbar support, and the back of the middle seat can be easily transformed into a convenient folding table. The seat upholstery is discreet, but resistant to external influences. The center console is equipped with two cup holders, although such a decision, in our opinion, is controversial - located in the zone windscreen a foreign object distracts attention. It is much more common to place such accessories on the right hand of the driver's seat. Another note concerns the advisability of installing a mirror in the cab: in this configuration, the view is limited by a blank partition behind the cab. But I liked the electric heated windshield: pressing the button allowed us to instantly cope with fogging.

STRONG STRUCTURE

Car permitted maximum mass in three tons is powered by a two-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 140 liters. with. In the European market for the T6 series, new TDI EA288 engines in the Euro-6 version with AdBlue injection are provided, but in Russia the diesel line is represented by the previous version power unit Euro-5 standard, which means that an expensive urea tank is not needed, although a place for its neck is reserved. As for such daily operations as checking the oil level and filling the windscreen washer reservoir, they will not cause difficulties - everything is at hand in the engine compartment.

The engine is aggregated with a 6-speed manual gearbox. 4MOTION version includes rear gear with Haldex coupling 5th generation and rear cross-axle differential locking mechanism. The distribution of the moment is organized as follows: on good coverage the leading wheels are the front wheels; when they slip, the Haldex clutch connects the rear wheels. Branded four-wheel drive works in conjunction with the system stabilization ESP+ and complemented by Hill Descent Assist (optional).

The new generation Transporter chassis uses a design that provides for the attachment of the front lateral rods. independent suspension and stabilizer lateral stability not to the body, but to the subframe, which in turn is bolted to the body through silent blocks. This solution improves vibration cut-off.

IN MOVE

On the move, this car is equally dynamic and traction, it does not sour even with a body loaded to the eyeballs. Fuel consumption of a loaded vehicle in mixed mode, according to on-board computer, amounted to 9.5 l / 100 km. The well-coordinated work of the McPherson front struts and rear suspension with a diagonal arm and separately mounted springs ensure the Transporter runs smoothly at the level of a passenger car. In the version with a high roof, which means a higher center of gravity, the work of the adaptive suspension control system DCC is clearly visible - this new option allows you to reduce longitudinal and lateral roll thanks to electronically controlled shock absorbers.

Among other new additions to the optional list, it is worth mentioning the headlight control assistant Light Assist, which automatically (according to the camera) turns on and off the high beam headlights. Interestingly, a sensitive sensor distinguishes light not only from headlights, but also from rear lights in front of the vehicle.

To test the all-wheel drive properties of the T6 Transporter, we chose a suburban section of the route, where the shortage of asphalt changed first to a country road with densely packed gravel, and then to complete off-road. On the dirt road after the autumn rain, our truck passed, clearly following the trajectory set by the driver, without drifts and slippage. No forced locking was required.

The car is equipped with equipment for transporting a trailer. There is a hitch stabilization function

The only reason for attention was the characteristic metallic knocking coming from the van when driving through bumps. Source extraneous noise turned out to be a dismantled hitch of the towing device, which is in the standard packing together with the jack. I had to wrap the clattering pieces of iron in a rag.

Summing up the impressions, we note that such a van with an adaptive chassis and all-wheel drive is open to any roads and directions. True, the price of such pleasure is high - 2,274,300 rubles, not counting additional options... Those who do not plan to marches on rough terrain should consider a cheaper mono-drive version with a 2-liter 140-horsepower diesel engine and 6-speed "mechanics". By the way, it was this version of the T5 Transporter that was the most sold in Russia.

The motors work in conjunction with a 5- or 6-speed gearbox or a 7-speed "robot" DSG with two clutches, front-wheel drive or a proprietary 4MOTION transmission with a Haldex clutch and a mechanical differential lock in the rear axle.

In a circle, the passenger-and-freight versions of the VW Transporter T6 are equipped with an independent chassis structure: MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link architecture at the rear. As an option, the vehicle is equipped with an adaptive DCC chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers and three operating modes.
