The ZAZ "Tavria" car is a model of a car with a hatchback body. All the time it was produced at a Soviet plant, which later became Ukrainian. The ZAZ "Tavria Novaya" car is a completely improved original version. It received a new digital index - 110260, while the first had 110240. In 1998, thanks to some requirements of the plant managers, the car received more than 300 changes. Most of them affected specifications, and also all the faults and shortcomings that showed themselves during the operation of the predecessor were corrected.

As a result, ZAZ produced two cars under the name "Tavria": a transitional mode and an improved one. There were several complete sets. They differed in different engines. The basic assembly received a 1.1 liter unit, the standard one - 1.2 liters and the luxury series - 1.2 and 1.3 liters. Moreover, the last option had an injector and carburetor power.

Development of the first copies

At the very beginning of the 70s, a large group of designers led by Steshenko developed this model. Then the team was able to realize new concept both on paper and as metal elements. It is necessary to clarify that already at that time the plans included a whole series of cars that differed in improved details and were modifications of the original ZAZ Tavria model. Among the possible designs were a pickup, station wagon, wagon, truck.

The power unit of the first instance, which came out in 1970, was the engine itself, a clutch and a 5-speed gearbox. Also, additional devices were installed in order to improve dynamics and make it more stable when cornering.

Release of some models

"Zhiguli" (also known as "penny") became the prototype for the next series this car... According to some sources, this was due to the fact that the state preferred cars more and pushed back the production of Tavria until the release of VAZ-2108 (Lada-Samara).

Production: "Dana", "Slavuta" and the new "Tavria"

The first sales began in 1988. At that time, the manufacturer considered its car as economical and inexpensive model... The following year, the USSR released an interesting commercial, which only fueled the interest of potential buyers.

The station wagon version - modification of 1994 - was named ZAZ-1105. The ZAZ "Tavria" engine and the "Dana" model coincided in their technical characteristics. Around the same time, Slavuta appeared. It was a car with a liftback body. Its serial production began in 1999. In 1997, the last copy of Dana was produced.

The usual base "Tavria" in 1999 was replaced by another model. "New" was created jointly with the Korean company "Daewoo". It changed some details and fixed technical problems.

Car release

The ZAZ "Tavria" car for the entire production period was provided to customers in a large number of modifications and variations. Injection and carburetor 1.1-1.3 liters were used. Externally, ZAZ-1102 "Tavria" immediately declares its "budget essence" - in the appearance of the car, there are no bright or memorable solutions, while it has a harmonious look, albeit not entirely attractive. The Soviet / Ukrainian subcompact cannot boast of outstanding "driving" characteristics: from a standstill to 100 km / h, it rushes in 12.5-16.2 seconds, accelerates to a maximum of 148-164 km / h and "digests" no more than 6-7.4 liters of fuel for each "Hundred" in the "city / highway" mode.

At the heart of the ZAZ-1102 "Tavria" is a front-wheel drive architecture with a transversely based power plant and an all-metal body of the load-bearing configuration. Replacing the timing belt

  5. Having unscrewed the three screws securing the water pump, we will disassemble the part, pull it towards ourselves from the block.
  6. The assembly is carried out upside-down.
  7. We start the engine and let it run. Add coolant to the level if necessary.

It must be remembered that the water pump gasket should also be replaced. Usually it comes with a pump, but it all depends on the manufacturer.

In any case, you will need machines for boring the cylinders of the block and the crankshaft. The main processes that are carried out when overhaul power unit Tavria:

  1. Dismantling the engine. At this stage, all motor parts are dismantled and their condition determined.
  2. Diagnostic operations on crankshaft and the cylinder block. So, engine parts are subjected to measurements, determination of repair dimensions. So, for the crankshaft it will be 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 0.75 mm and 1.00 mm. But for the cylinder block - 82.5 mm, 83.0 mm and 83.5 mm.
  3. The next stage is boring and honing, as well as grooving of the crankshaft. This process also includes grinding the block plane and washing the parts.
  4. Further, all the parts that remain are repaired - the cylinder head, the oil pump.
  5. The last stage is the assembly of the motor and its running-in.

The described process seems simple enough, but do not rejoice, because this is only a short description of the processes.

Refinement and tuning

Many motorists, especially in Ukraine, are tuning ZAZ Tavria engines. There are two tuning options - superficial and full. Let us consider the second option in more detail, since it is more complicated.

First of all, the engine is disassembled and lightened. This is obtained by replacing some parts. The motorist will need lightweight pistons from ANF (Poland), valves with a low landing, also lighter ones, a lighter DEF crankshaft (made in Ukraine), as well as light connecting rods.

After replacing these parts, the already lightweight motor will become 82 kg lighter. Then, we update the cooling system, replacing the water pipes with silicone ones, and the pump with a tuning version from Sens.

The next step is to rework the exhaust system, which should be shortened by 5 cm, this will add an average of 12 horsepower. It will also be necessary to upgrade the injection system. For this, the carburetor is moved. The jets are either turned in a new way on a lathe, or the old ones are grooved. Also, it is worth replacing the "nozzle" of the fuel supply.

Another upgrade will be the installation of a lightweight ATF clutch. This will allow the crankshaft to rotate faster and change gears much easier. Also, in connection with such changes, you will have to think about changing lubricant... It is generally recommended to fill in synthetics that will withstand elevated temperatures.

The final stage of tuning is the installation air filter zero resistance. Of course, you can also replace the timing drive, but as practice shows, there is enough native system.

Motor Tavria is considered one of the simplest and most easily repaired power units. So, even a novice car enthusiast will be able to cope with the maintenance, repair and tuning of the motor. The simplicity and reliability of the power unit makes it the best option for novice motorists.
